Diana
This beautiful bust is taken from the statue of Diana that was at Versailles - but now it is one of the treasures of the Louvre. Diana was the perpetual virgin goddess of the hunt - associated with wild animals and forests. The descendant of Jupiter and twin sister of Apollo. She was a moon goddess - and an symbol of chastity. Oak groves were especially sacred to her. She was praised for her strength - athletic grace - beauty and her hunting skills.
